It is said, “We are what we eat!” Well, I believe we reflect who we are and our interests by what we wear. My love for wildflowers is projected in the Art Party Designs I have created. In the book Appalachian Mornings Aunt Terri helps her nieces design Back to School Outfits. All you need is a polyester blend white or cream blouse, dress or skirt, rubbing alcohol, a medicine dropper, permanent markers, a plastic cup and a rubber band.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Go into your closet and find a white or off white blouse to use to design your new look. If you feel you need drawing help, search the web for a line drawing of a rose, sunflower, robin, etc.
  2. Use a plastic cup to place under the blouse. Secure the cup in the upper right shoulder of the blouse with a rubber band.
  3. Take a yellow permanent marker and draw a small circle in the center. Then, choose a second color and cover the first color and a circle around it. Add a third color to the outside. The design should not go beyond the size of a quarter.
  4. Next, use the dropper to drip 10-20 drops of rubbing alcohol into the center. Rotate the cup so it flows in all directions.
  5. Use heat to set the colors by placing your blouse in the clothes dryer for approximately 15 minutes. Wear and just beam when you hear the question, “Where did you find that blouse?”
    1. flowerDry it with the hair dryer and pick an accent color to strengthen the flower design. If you want smaller flowers, you’ll need to use a smaller cup and fewer drops of alcohol. A purple marker was used to make a pansy design.
